Keynote Speaker: Dr. Donna Ford
The keynote speaker is Donna Y. Ford, PhD, Professor of Education and Human Development and Cornelius Vanderbilt Endowed Chair at Vanderbilt University. Dr. Ford conducts research primarily in gifted education and multicultural/urban education. Dr. Ford, who has written over 200 articles and book chapters, has made over 1,000 presentations at professional conferences and organizations, and in school districts
Featured Speaker: Andi McNair
Andi McNair, featured speaker, is the author of the popular book, Genius Hour, and is releasing a new book this spring called, A Meaningful Mess. Ms. McNair will be doing a book signing at the conference. Ms. McNair was a classroom teacher for 16 years before pursuing her passion to change education by sharing practical ways to engage and empower this generation of learners. She is currently a digital innovation specialist in Waco, Texas. Ms. McNair is passionate about using meaningful technology in the classroom and finding innovative ways to engage today’s learners. Documentary Screening: 2e: Twice Exceptional
There will be a screening of the documentary 2e:Twice Exceptional. The documentary follows the personal journeys of a unique group of high school students in Los Angeles who have been identified as “twice exceptional” – gifted or highly gifted individuals with learning disabilities or differences. They are geniuses, mavericks and dreamers – Malcolm Gladwell’s budding “outliers.” Featuring thought-provoking and illuminating interviews with students, parents, teachers, psychologists and therapists, 2e: Twice Exceptional is produced and directed by Thomas Ropelewski.

Registration for and participation in the Institute constitutes an agreement by the registrant to permit LAUSD Gifted/Talented Programs and the Greater Los Angeles Gifted Children’s Association (GLA-GCA) to reproduce through printed, audio, visual, or electronic means, activities in which registrants have participated in during the Institute. This authorization will enable us to use specially prepared materials to (1) train teachers and/or (2) increase public awareness and promote continuation and improvement of education/professional development programs through the use of mass media, displays, brochures, websites, etc. You will not be compensated for the use of these electronic reproductions.
The Greater Los Angeles Gifted Children’s Association (GLA-GCA) is a Section 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to gifted education. One of the main purposes of the organization is to provide training opportunities in the form of an annual City/County Conference in Los Angeles with partners including the Los Angeles Unified School District. All conference proceeds are reinvested each year into the conference for the following year. By attending the Annual Gifted Conference you are supporting continued gifted professional development.
